The Leeward Islands and the Windward islands of the Caribbean are lesser
known to our American charter clients than the classic destinations of the
BVI and the US Virgin Islands - certainly as far as yacht charters and
sailing vacations are concerned. Our European clients have been spending
their holidays and chartering here for decades. This said - these islands
especially the French ones - never fail to delight our Americam guests with
their fine food and warm and friendly atmosphere.
There is also an issue of access: direct flights from the mainland USA
are less frequent as opposed to St. Thomas or San Juan, Puerto Rico for
example. . European Airlines, on the other hand have direct flights into
Antigua, St. Maarten, Martinique and Barbados. Another issue is the
distance between islands, there is considerable blue water sailing involved
and the required level of expertise for bareboaters is greater, than say,
in the BVI. If you're a crewed yacht junkie, this doesn't apply of course
since your captain will assume responsibility for navigation and safety.
In short, these islands collectively represent such marvellous contrasts
in natural beauty and cultural differences that make a yacht charter or
sailing vacation or visit, an absolute must for more adventurous
charterers.
